31-10-2016, Kampala: As the date for the IGAD Regional Ministerial Meeting on Migration draws closer, the National Organising Committee (NOC) held several sessions to prepare the first ever meeting at that level on the subject in Uganda.

26 November 2014, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: The 4th Meeting of the Regional Consultative Process on Migration started today in Addis Ababa with an aim of creating a dialogue around refugees, IDPs and returnees to think of creative solutions to some of the migration challenges being experienced.
A discussion on the draft action plan to operationalize the Regional Migration Policy Framework (RMPF) was held in the Addis Ababa on 13-14th December 2013 by IGAD member states. The objective of this discussion was to brainstorm on the Migration Action Plan (MAP) that intends to make operational the Framework adopted by the IGAD council of ministers in 2012. More specifically, the meeting discussed the strategic priorities, actions and activities; refined the approaches and implementation timelines and discussed the resource mobilization and institutional aspects of the MAP. The meeting was attended by member states ministries of immigration, justice, national security and labour or their equivalent.
The IGAD RMPF is the guiding and reference policy framework on migration drawn from the Migration policy Framework for Africa (MPFA) adopted in Banjul in 2006 while responding to the unique challenges and opportunities of the IGAD region. Member states of IGAD are encouraged to use the document as a reference as they develop their own national migration policies.

In its 3rd year, the RCP this year will be held on 9th& 10th May 2013 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the theme Migration and Regional Integration. This comes in the wake of the adoption of the IGAD Minimum Integration Plan (MIP) by the Summit of Heads of States and Government’s in 2012 as the guiding road map for IGAD’s regional Integration. Various processes within the framework of the MIP are ongoing including negotiations towards a free movement of person’s regime, the Horn of Africa Infrastructure Initiative among others.
Issues of migration as they contribute to socio-economic and political development of both countries of origin and destination were discussed at lengthy during the just ended Second Meeting of the IGAD Regional Consultative Process on Migration held in Addis Ababa on 7th and 8th February 2012.
