The new IGAD Strategy provides the overall framework to guide IGAD in delivering its mandate. The region is going through rapid and tough new challenges and obstacles including climate change, resource scarcity, economic shocks from global economic crises, security threats, fragility and conflicts among others. These challenges will shape the lives of current and future generations of this region. This strategic document appeals to these new dynamics and takes into account new initiatives and frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and its 10-Years Implementation Plan, the new global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) and the IGAD CAADP Compact among others.
