Introduction

Regional pharmaceutical production in the IGAD region has received minimal support from the international community because most procurement systems encourage purchase of cheap imported medicines rather than investing in local production. Promotion of regional manufacture of essential medicines complements the continental agenda of the African Union, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa (PMPA) endorsed in 2007 by member states.

22 December 2020 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti) - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Djibouti and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) yesterday held a Media Day to mark the handing over of medical supplies to the Government of Djibouti during an official ceremony at the Warehouse of the Ministry of Health of Djibouti located at PK12.  

August 12, 2020 (Obock, Djibouti): A team from IGAD- The Intergovernmental Authority for Development- made a visit on the 12th of August to the town of Obock-(Republic of Djibouti) to hand over a donation consisting of face masks and sanitary gel for the refugees in the Markazi camp as part of the efforts or actions to prevent the spread of COVID 19 virus.

Dec. 11, 2019 (ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia): The Director of Health and Social Development of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)-Ms Fathia A. Alwan, and the Health Director General of the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia-Dr. S. Tadesse, this morning inaugurated a cross border collaboration orientation meeting to establish inter-country referral mechanism among Member States.
